Knock my energy
and scald my freedom,
forcing a strip
of security for thinner
protection, so raw flesh
won’t rub and
end all movement.
Fiction and poetry writing, recapturing the muse.
Knock my energy
and scald my freedom,
forcing a strip
of security for thinner
protection, so raw flesh
won’t rub and
end all movement.
Unexpected gift
dissolving one insecurity,
gaze at its defence
and sigh with relief,
one problem resolved
in a river of anxiety,
but even that small drop
has saved the day
from despair.
Thieving wings
swoop and scoop
away a sugared prize,
leaving behind
confusion and respect.
Check the order
and rearrange
for late arrivals,
or perhaps they were
always there,
just overlooked
until their presence
became a bother.
Spy from miles away,
wondering why you don’t rise,
what brought such exhaustion
and why I can’t be there
to sleep beside you.
You looked comfortable
all alone,
so you must be happy
and not desperately
hoping someone will approach
to include you
and acknowledge
that you are needed,
even just a little.
Cut to spread,
covering more ground
with less cushioning
and hoping no one
notices the difference.
Organise time
and predict others’ needs,
stand-by for action
and pause your reaction.
Sculpture your personality
to please strangers,
then shut down your functions
as you’re forgotten,
too unmemorable
to be cared for.
Try to slow your mind
to decipher what’s real,
but how do you escape yourself
enough to know
who you really are now,
and if you ever were
you at all.
One touch
to melt all barriers
and shutdown
the stress of today,
postponing
it until tomorrow.
